Night time is Photoshop time

by | October 2011

Taking pictures in the dark is fun, but it does not give you material to work with for a book. We experimented with flash lights, torches and even car lights. We had a lot of laughs, but the conclusion was that in the bush, with limited equipment, it is merely impossible to light up bigger areas. The lights reflect on the nearest object and will leave everything beyond that point in shades or even total darkness. The next resort is of course to increase aperture and exposure of your camera. This means that you have to keep absolutely still. For us that is not a problem, as we use a tripod. If there is no wind you can take great landscape shots. But animals will of course not stand still for a minute. Putting the ISO up is the next option. Sounds great and the camera manufacturers even advertise with the possibilities, but the pictures are still grainy. In the end you will have to turn the light down in your computer. So to answer your questions, no the pictures for this Phanhabs illustration were not taken during the night. Night time is Photoshop time…
