Lucky to find the pangolin

For many Safari veterans the pangolin is a mystical animal. They are rare, secretive and difficult to spot. Unfortunately their numbers are decreasing even further because in China they are considered a delicacy and their scales are believed to have medicinal qualities. As they are nocturnal, they normally sleep, curled up in a ball, during daytime. Therefor we feel lucky for having seen one twice in broad daylight! On our very first safari we saw lions using a young pangolin to play ball with. Because we had never seen lions before, we forgot to take pictures of the pangolin. Only later did we realize, how unique this encounter was. So when we tracked a leopard on our last safari and stumbled over a pangolin instead, we took lots of pictures. Lucky again, to find the pangolin…
